What’s that Piqué all about?

Posted by Lory Struver on 16th Jul 2012

Piqué is a knit fabric that is characterized by it’s raised, geometric texture. This texture can be decsribed as waffle weave, hexagon, or diamond pattern depending on the knitting process. Tennis and golf shirts are often produced in piqué fabric. Piqué uniform shirts are often cotton, polyester or a blend of cotton and polyester. Fabric technology continues to improve and more and more piqué fabrics are being offered in performance polyesters, organic cotton, and bamboo.

The benefits of choosing a uniform polo shirts in piqué are many. They are versatile, offered in many colors and styles, and appropraite for any position from the golf course to the board room. They are comfortable to perform any task. They can be extremely budget friendly or luxuriously high end. And, they are durable and easy to care for.

Here are some factors that you may consider when determining what to buy:

1. Fabric content. Cotton is prefered for it’s soft hand and breathability but it can shrink, fade and wrinkle more readily that polyester. Polyester is resistant to those problems but does not have the natural breathability. Our uniform program buyers are often pleased with a cotton/poly blended fabric that gives the best of both worlds. We encourage buyers to get a sample and try the newest polyester performance fabrics that offer extreme moisture wicking, wrinkle resistance and stain resistance. The increased cost often pays off big in the longevity and performance of your uniforms.

2. Fabric weight. The fabric description will include the weight, i.e. 65/35 poly/cotton 6.5 oz. This refers to the average weight of the fabric per yard. Heavier is not always better. It just depends on your needs.

3. Special features. Look for things like “no curl collars”, rapid dry, and teflon treated sport shirts.
